We believe that our online philosophy encyclopedia serves an important function for students, scholars, and general readers. This is because it aims to be more reader-friendly than the leading alternatives: Wikipedia, the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, and the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy. These alternative philosophy encyclopedias can be very technical and approach topics using a distinctively analytic philosophy framework and methodology. Our encyclopedia isn’t meant to replace these alternatives. But we believe that our articles provide a helpful starting point for many readers – especially those seeking to understand key ideas of influential philosophers throughout history.
